Home>TENNIS DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY ADOPTED
| 19 October 2009 | | Southern Grampians Shire Council last week adopted the Southern Grampians Tennis Development Strategy.
The Strategy was completed by recreation planning consultant company @leisure and provides Council with a review of the existing tennis facilities within the Shire, assesses future demand, evaluates and recommends for future development including potential costs, develops a tennis hierarchy for the Shire and identifies the best location for a Sub-Regional Tennis Facility. The Strategy also completed a Master Plan for Patterson Park.
Major recommendations from the Strategy include: • The development of a Sub-Regional Tennis Facility at the Hamilton Golf Club. This will allow Hamilton to host regional tennis tournaments while also providing economic benefits to the Hamilton Golf Club. • The development of a social/family youth precinct space at Patterson Park featuring a skate park, two tennis courts, a basketball court, kick-about pitch with soccer goals, jogging track, barbeque and playground facilities. • That four locations throughout the Shire offer district level tennis facilities. These locations are Coleraine, Cavendish, Balmoral and Dunkeld. According to the Tennis hierarchy, district level facilities will offer at least four courts with lighting, offer coaching and tennis development programs and be preferably a combination of hard court and artificial grass.
The challenge now for Council and the local tennis clubs will be to look for grants and to fundraise, to allow for the extensive array of works outlined in the Tennis Development Strategy to be completed.
